First King of the Bay 2024

The first of the KOTB series took place on Saturday last. The Spring Cup saw the fleet race around Loo Rock just off Ballyvaughan in near perfect racing conditions. Woofer set the pace from the start line on a reach and rounding Cockle cardinal mark in the lead with Ibaraki a boat lenght behind. Wind speeds of 10-12 knots from the North prevailed with occasional gusts in the high teens. With spinnakers popped the race continued at pace across the bay and boat speeds of plus on eight knots were the norm. With Ibaraki now in the lead the fleet rounded Loo Rock to starboard, a short reach to the western end of the rock, a tack and then a beat to windward to make the turn at Cockle. A wind shift to the right and a filling tide forced the fleet to tack out before finally rounding Cockle to Starboard and making the way into Renville to cross the finish. A great sailing day's for all who participated.
