The first of this year's Women On The Water race events was held Fri 2nd of June in blustery conditions at Galway Bay Sailing Club. With wind speeds averaging 18 knots the conditions proved testing for the competitors many of whom had never sailed a Topaz dinghy before. Although eight adventurous sailors signed-on to take out the six boat fleet we had a number of withdrawals before racing started and only four boats made it to the start line.

Fiona & Helen were outright winners on the night winning all three races but special mention has to go to Catherine and Emer who are both 'newbies' to dinghy sailing having only taken it up in the last year. Also good to see that it was a complete separate set of sailors to the last event in 2016 which shows the depth of talent in the club.
